“You can’t buy my love,” she told him. But time and time again he saw her eyeing the elegant rings and glittering necklaces in jewelry shops.
“I don’t want your gifts,” she told him. Still he saw how she watched longingly as a couple exchanged tokens over dinner.
“There’s no need to take time off,” she told him when he wanted to take her away for the weekend.
Later, when he saw her on the arm of a suave older gentleman, she didn’t tell him anything. She didn’t need to.
He already knew she didn’t want him or his love.
