Blame the Goblins

It’s the first Friday of the year! Welcome to a brand new year of Friday Fictioneers,  where bloggers and writers all over the world write a 100 word story based on the photo prompt provided to us by the lovely Rochelle Wisoff-Fields.

Our first photo prompt of the year is a bit of whimsical one, and put me in mind of one of my favorite movies of all time, Labyrinth. Enjoy!

Blame the Goblins

“Alice? Alice where are you?” Lizzie called, her eyes scanning the seemingly empty backyard.

She sighed in relief as a little blonde head of curls came running from out behind a tree, squealing happily. “Where’s Doggie?” Lizzie asked.

Alice grinned. “Goblins took him.”

Lizzie opened her mouth in mock surprise. “Goblins? But we must get him back!” She helped her daughter make a thorough search of the backyard, but there was no sign of the errant pooch.

A yelp from the tree got their attention. “How did you get up there?” Lizzie said aloud.

Alice answered. “Goblins,” she said knowingly.

  1. It’s always the goblins. Or sometimes the trolls. But usually the goblins.
“Goblins put him up there” makes more sense to me than the doggy actually climbing up that tree!

    1. I blame the goblins for everything. Troublesome creatures, they are. They take everything and move stuff around. Socks (and we think the dryer eats them), car keys, important papers that we swore were right on the table a minute ago…the list goes on. So it’s entirely plausible that they would put a dog in a tree too!

Tell me what you think!
